Cloudy with further rain and occasional showers. Strong winds.

20 December 2021 celebrates our first anniversary as the RAF Shawbury Gliding Club (RSGC).

The weather intervened to turn a flying day into a much needed club admin day

Slow to clear mist and fog through the morning with poor viz. Most places will remain grey with a low cloud base throughout the whole day.

A largely cloudy day with the odd pocket of drizzle in the morning. Some brightness is possible, particularly during the afternoon.

A belter of a NNW wind lingered longer than expected and that meant we didn’t get out on to the airfield until around 12:00 for a very short flying day.

Brisk NNW wind will make temperatures feel like 0°C all day; wrap up warm and be prepared for an occasional wintry shower. May see Wave over the airfield.

The Met X-Section produced an entirely different forecast with just a short flying window before the onset of rain and sleet.

A cold NNW wind pushing down through the Cheshire Gap will make temperatures feel like 1°C all day.

Despite the northerly wind and low temperature we enjoyed fantastic weather with some stunning views over the surrounding countryside.

A chilly start followed by sunny intervals. Maximum temperature c8°C but the northerly Polar Maritime wind will make it feel more like c3°C

A frustrating day for those who were able to attend with persistent morning mist that delayed the start of flying until 13:00.

Any early morning fog will clear leaving a mostly dry but cloudy day with the best of any bright or sunny spells during the afternoon

A day of mixed fortunes as a strong WNW wind in the morning proved out of limits for the tug. With the wind easing we eventually ventured out on to the airfield for a 12:45 start.

With the wind strength and direction from over the Welsh mountains we are likely to see Wave set up over the airfield from early on

High winds and turbulence brought an end to the days flying after just 7 launches. Definitely not a day for our pre-solo pilots to hone their skills.
