Flying Report Sun 7 Nov 21

As we looked at the forecast and anticipated Wave over the airfield from first light, in reality it was a day of mixed fortunes.  A strong WNW wind in the morning was out of limits for the tug and so it was a morning spent in some important admin.  With the wind easing we eventually ventured out on to the airfield for a 12:45 start.   It’s always great to see the youngsters out on the airfield and we were delighted to welcome back Marco and Harry from Cosford who they were allocated the K21.

The objectives of the day were twofold firstly, practice take offs and landings in a sporty crosswind and, second, get into Wave.  Everyone enjoyed the first but there was mixed success with the second objective.

It was clear that Wave was forming ……

…..and it has to be admitted most of us struggled to exploit the situation. It was left to Will Dean and Alan Swan to make the most of the conditions on the last flight of the day with an aero-tow to 5,000 feet and then climbs to 8,500 feet for a total flight time of 1 hr 47 mins.

Only the end of daylight brought flying to a close – the Wave was still booming.

Let’s hope for some more of these conditions over the Winter.
