RAF COSFORD GLIDING WEEK

The first week in January sees a welcome return by the RAF Shawbury Gliding Club (RSGC) to its old home at RAF Cosford.  It was always the intention that as and when the opportunity arose, that we would undertake flying from RAF Cosford.  This is the first such opportunity.

With a large number of personnel on camp over a designated leave period, RAF Shawbury Gliding Club (RSGC) is running a gliding course at RAF Cosford.  The aim is to develop key personal qualities in service personnel, achieved through a series of three Force Development (FD) activities (all flying activities subject to weather conditions).

Subject to the weather, the course takes place 5 – 7 Jan 22 and concentrates on the development of participants’ teamwork, communication and physical and psychological resilience.  It is hoped that the focussed nature of the course will culminate in a solo glider flight.

An aero-tow only course, four students will undertake a full 3 day course, whilst four students will be accommodated on each 1 day course that will run concurrently, a total of sixteen students in all over the 3 day period.  Aircraft will include RSGC’s TMG and both two seaters, together with a further two-seater on loan for the duration of the course.

The course is fully booked with a waiting list indicating perhaps that there might be an appetite to run similar intensive courses in the future at RAF Cosford.
