Denbigh Flying Programme Week 2
The conditions for Week 2 of the deployment of our Duo Discus were similar to the previous week at Lleweni Parc. Week 2 saw flying on Mon, Thu and Fri with both the Duo-Discus (R2) and Lleweni Parc’s Grob 109.
Monday saw Norm flying with Pete Jones, an ex-RAF technician and one of Norm’s hang-gliding gang. They flew R2 on the ridge for 3 hours 6 minutes, that included one short lived wave climb to 3.5k.
With no lift about, Thursday saw Colin WFH in Lleweni Parc’s Grob 109 as he and Norm took a trip around Snowdonia and the North Wales Coast
Friday was forecast to be Wave and the outlook looked good.
Norm and Colin took a launch to 3,000ft and got briefly into Wave…….
…….but the reality was that lift was weak, and having scratched around for 2 hours they returned to Lleweni Parc
Noticeably, they were joined at one stage by “GD”, a Hawker Hurricane!
At COP Friday R2 was derigged and returned to Shawbury. For those who took the opportunity to fly at Denbigh it was great introduction to the Duo Discus and worth repeating next year.
Many thanks to Norm for making it all happen.
