Admin Day Sat 6 Jul 24
Rain until mid-afternoon and then a cross wind out of limits for the tug put paid to any ambitions that we might have had, which was a great pity for those who turned up. Howevs, the gloom was lifted with the arrival of a delicious cake courtesy of Mrs #vulcanbomber
Our three MEF students Oliver, Jake and Charlie were dispatched to the simulator room with instructor Colin Haynes. There they went through a number of exercises and, although pretty basic, the sim is adequate for teaching the basics although it would be nice for both our members and visitors to have a club cockpit-based sim. Perhaps that is for another day.
We are also aware that we need to get a number of members to move on to a single seater so this was a great opportunity for #vulcanbomber ,who's always been used to having a co-pilot on his bombing runs up in the Scottish Lochs, to get to know the single seat Astir R66. At least, that was the brief for The Vicar but we couldn’t help but think that he might have been delivering a sermon.
At various times, and more in hope than expectation, various forays were made out on to the airfield to check the weather but where the signs of the impending runway upgrade were all too evident. A barrier on the periway to r’ways 35 and 18 will cause us to have take an alternate route to the launch point.
Meanwhile, the NOTAM’d crane that wasn’t there on the approach but that Will insisted we should know about last week was, err, there this week!
How many does it take to rig a K18 following its annual? Well in our club only 9!
Finally, and with the K18 out of the maintenance area there was then time to clear it in preparation for the temporary move next weekend out of Hangar 4 to make way for a Station event. Many thanks to all the movers.
Let’s hope for better weather next weekend.
