Flying Report 29 Jun 24
With a number of key players away on other duties, it’s thanks to our hardworking instructors and tuggies that we got through what was a very busy day. Indeed, given the forecast we achieved far more than we might have thought. Thanks to Norm for stepping in at the last moment and Will for staying longer than nappy changing duties normally allow. Oh, and most importantly, there was cake on the menu again with thanks to Mrs #vulcanbomber. We do love a cake or two🤓
The Ex-Dear Leader had returned to the US where he had a ticket for the Trump-Biden debate. Other club members were doing domestic chores, but one was doing “danger close” stuff and we couldn’t decide whether it was thermic or some other reason it was hot where he was!
Rain meant a delayed start until the first launch at 1100 and, given the numbers it was decided to take out just the 2 K21s, Astir EEO and the two tugs. New to the club we welcomed Shawbury based Charlie who has been solo at Syerston and is now on the MEF gliding scholarship programme. Flying with Will it was evident that Charlie is near ready to solo on aerotow, with eventualities to complete next week. To job Charlie.
With our normal Cosford MEF students on exams next week it was only Harry and Jake who turned up to enjoy a day of flying. However, and to their credit, they did leave early after flying to catch up on the morning’s revision they’d dodged!
Cloud base did not rise above 2,500ft and with occasional light rain and 10/10ths cloud there was little or no thermic activity. Nevertheless, over the course of the day everyone got a trip whether in a glider or the TMG.
The Vicar’s got a new job that obvs pays better than the meagre pickings of the collection plate, so he’s gone and bought himself a K21!
Anyway, with no R66 on the launch point we let the Vicar loose in Astir EEO after a VERY LOUD BRIEFING FROM DEFF TERRY!!
After his trip he said it didn’t fly too badly for an old Grob!
Paul Sutton had travelled from Warrington to be with us for the afternoon in which he took 3 trips with Nick in R35. Paul too is nearing solo and needs to complete eventualities training on his next flying day.
Our current tame Myndie joined us to continue his aero-tow training. After a check ride with Norm, Alan went on to complete a couple of solo trips – good work Alan and we hope to see you on another occasion.
25 launches and nearly 8 hours of flying time and with big thanks to our tuggie-of-the-day John Luke who completed 18 of the launches with 27 landings! Great work John.
And despite all this activity going on, the airfield hares were completely unperturbed and getting on with what hares do!.
