Training
Learning to fly a glider is hugely rewarding, with many goals to achieve even after you go solo. RSGC has a crack team of British Gliding Association approved instructors that are ready to help you along this journey.
The fastest way to achieve your goal is to fly as regularly as possible. This continuity helps to prevent taking two steps forwards and one step back.
Whilst the coaching your instructor can give you is second to none, there are also a number of great resources on the internet to help you. These include:
The BGA’s Online Resources and Links page - Includes links to a huge variety of information including the principles of flight, Bronze theory, field landings and wave soaring
The BGA Instructors’ Manual - This is designed for instructors but describes all of the key exercises you’ll fly whilst training
The British Gliding Association have recorded a number of webinars on a number of gliding-related topics. We’ve included a selection of them here:
If you’re looking for a book to dive into, you can’t go far wrong with these:
Bronze and Beyond - A Glider Pilot's Guide by John McCullagh - This is a classic book, covering all aspects of gliding, that many glider pilots use to pass their “Bronze” exam
The Glider Pilot's Manual by Ken Stewart - More focussed on flying itself than other aspects of gliding, this book is great for progressing onwards from Bronze and Beyond
