Non-Flying Day Sun 16 Feb 25

Yet another day lost to the weather with low cloud and mist hanging over the airfield. Frustrating thought it is, as someone said, “Well it is February!”

February 2025 is a great disappointment, particularly so for our loyal MEF bursary students.  With no flying, therefore, we entertained ourselves until about 13:30 before heading home.

Good luck to Esther Smith on posting to the BB Memorial Flight.  She got the lowdown from a couple of BB veterans #vulcanbomber and Mike Osborn who gave their experience of what a long distant flight was like with four Merlin engines purring away!

Many thanks to Danny and the others who fitted to R22 and ground tested the newly arrived ACL.

A team of one “doer” and three “watchers” gave the Duo Discus trailer a well-deserved washdown on return from the Juniors at Lleweni Parc.

Whilst Reece was enjoying a lesson on the simulator with Will, there was some more serious stuff going on in another of the club rooms with Alan J giving some flight instructor coaching to Danny and Laura in prep for the coming season.

News.  Our newly formed club syndicate kindly offered £600 to the RAFGSA to purchase the K18 (R43) that is sitting in the hangar at Shawbury.  Apparently in all the excitement they forgot to add another “0”!

Diary dates:

2 Mar 25.  BGA Women’s Advocate, Yvonne Elliott will be visiting the club and will be hosted by our women’s ambassador Laura.

24 – 29 Mar 25.  Denbigh Exped.

National Women's Go Gliding Weekend.  The concept is that on one day during the weekend of the 26/27 April 2025 (with a fall-back weekend of 17/18 May), the club will focus on welcoming women, with the aim of helping them to discover gliding and membership of the club.  Laura is leading and ee will need normal attendance by members to help on the day please..
