Flying Report Sun 6 Aug 23

A lot going on this weekend.  Storm Antoni forced a change of flying day and many thanks to RAF Shawbury staff for getting the runway swept early at such short notice. That meant that our start was not delayed for too long.

We packed R22 into its trailer and sent it over to Denbigh where Ian G is running an aerobatics course next week – a reprise of the formation loops in the last course perhaps.

We took a mint R46 out of Hangar 4 for its first flying day.   K13 R46 replaces K13 R38 which has been sold.  Both externally and internally R46 is immaculately finished and a welcome addition to the fleet.

The short notice change of day did affect the numbers who were able to attend, nevertheless everyone got a trip despite the showers that just glanced the airfield.  MEF students Ben and Fergus managed 7 flights between them.

Shawbury based daughter Holly had booked a 70th birthday treat for Mum Lorna and what can be more special than to see Shropshire from the air from the front armchair seat of a K21?  We placed Lorna in the capable hands of Colin for her memorable trip and, who knows, we may see you again.

The last part of the day was taken up in emptying Hangar 4 in preparation for Families Day next Thursday.  K21 R35 remains in H4 as a static exhibit along with the BGA simulator but the rest of the fleet were moved to Hangar 1.  The final event was a hangar door closure race between Will and The Vicar – Will won!
