Flying Report Sat 10 Feb 24

Low lying mist across the airfield greeted our arrival and was the start of a day that, as we waited on the launch point, just served to frustrate as consecutive banks of cloud rolled in and then lifted.

While we waited, a bunch of older boys reminisced about Last of the Summer Wine with Gliders…...

……and for the youngsters, Jack won the aeronautical engineering comp with a distance of 53.5 ft  Good effort Jack (for an Army lad!)

With the rest of us stuck on the ground, new MEF student Oli took a trip with Colin in WG to practice some aircraft handling skills. Hope you enjoyed the day Oli and see you next week.

It wasn’t until 14:30, as the skies cleared, that we really got going with the aim to get everyone a trip in what remained of the day.  Great to see Nigel in the back seat of the K21 after his long layoff.

He and Geoff C in R35 popped over to check on #vulcanbomber’s Chicken Run land-out location as reported in last week’s exclusive report.  Unsurprisingly, and after last week’s shock, on seeing R35 again all 100,000 free range chickens took both fright and flight back to the hen house and scambled eggs!

After days of heavy rain it was all too evident that the ground was saturated with Rivers Severn, Tern and Roden all having burst their banks; even the streams in the local area looked like rivers.

There was sniff of thermic activity, enough for R35 and R46 to get together over the quarry, but it was a false promise.

Lastly, Brian Gough had travelled from Odiham to be with us for the day.  Hope that you enjoyed the day and many thanks for all your pushing and pulling around the airfield Brian.

Bring on some decent weather!
