Flying report Tue 20 Dec 22 - Will’s Day!

We enjoyed a super day out, a day that was all about supporting Will Dean on the next step in his gliding career. And so it was that a few hardy stalwarts gathered on a hazy day at Shawbury to set up the airfield for Will’s afternoon adventure. BTW, there was no pot of gold found in the K21 below!

So while we awaited the arrival of Will, there was time to squeeze in a K21 trip each for Geoff C and Terry, and also some continuity flying in the Motor Glider for John Luke as he builds up the hours toward the start of his tuggy training.  Geoff C surprisingly found some weak wave just East of Shrewsbury for a trip of 50 mins.

Meanwhile, down on the ground there were some mysterious shapes moving on the airfield.

Will arrived on the airfield at lunchtime.  Having strutted his stuff in the classroom at the weekend……

……today was to be his practical examination with BGA Regional Examiner Steve Male, the culmination of his ½ Cat training.

We are delighted to say that Will passed with flying colours and, subject to completion of the paperwork and a confirmation flight with the club CFI, Will is the latest in our long line of ½ Cat Instructors.  Well done Will, and we’ll have to sort out a willing volunteer for your first instructor trip!

The day finished with Toby Jones, in the Motor Glider. picking up the structured commencement of his BI training with Alan Swan; another younger member coming through the system.  All-in-all a very successful day.
