Flying Report Sat 11 Mar 23

With a poor forecast it was a few hardy stalwarts that gathered at Hangar 4.  The highlight of the truncated day was a first solo for Richard Head.

Knowing the forecast, it was with some speed that we deployed out on to the airfield and with a S wind blowing over the snow covered hills and frozen ground it was cold.  So whilst John Luke headed out in KE to continue his hours toward his tuggie qualification and take in the views of a cold Shropshire…..

……our aim was to get our MEF students flying.  The Mechanics’ Endowment Fund (MEF) provides gliding courses to personnel of any rank attending a Phase 1 or Phase 2 course at RAF Cosford or RAF Shawbury – see https://www.rafshawburygc.co.uk/mef-bursary for more details.  Richie picked up his training programme with instructor Will Dean.

We welcomed new member Chris from Shawbury and he took R22 with instructor Nick Lewinton for their first flights of the day. Hope you enjoyed your day Chris and look forward to watching your progress.

So the highlight of the day was his first solo at Shawbury for club senior citizen Richard Head following some eventualities refresher training in the Motor Glider and a check flight in R22.  Well done for persevering Richard and you can now look forward to the soaring season.

As Richard landed to applause at 12:35 the first spots of the forecast rain started to fall spelling the end of a short but fulfilling day.
