Flying Report Sat 1 Apr 23
It remained stubbornly overcast all day with cloud base around 2,000ft and combined with a Northerly wind it felt cold in the airfield.
A large crowd assembled at H4 and it was great to welcome the next tranche of MEF students. With a number of visitors it was set to be a busy day with both tugs and three two-seat aircraft fully employed.
The priority was to get our MEF bursary students airborne. With Josh Milner, Nigel “Land-Out” Lassiter and jolly Alan Jolly adding to our instructor capacity, our MEF students all enjoyed four flights each. Part of their programme also includes introduction to glider maintenance including fault rectification, daily checks and annual maintenance and part of their task at the end of flying was a derig of motor glider WG for its annual.
Next we welcomed dad Steve and son Sam. Dad’s a veteran living locally and they’d popped along for a taster. Both enjoyed a trip in R38 in the very capable hands of Josh and we hope that we see you again in the not too distant future
It was to be a testing day for Amelia as she was put through her paces. Allan Jolly completed a series of flights to complete the Basic Instructor (BI) syllabus and then Amelia took Alan Swan on a test BI flight, Alan acting as the passenger on a first flight. All that having been successfully completed Amelia then flew on a CFI acceptance flight with Ian Gallacher. Subject to the completion of her cross-country endorsement, of the paperwork and ratification by the BGA Amelia, aged 16, will in all probability be the youngest Basic Instructor in the Club’s long past history. Well done indeed.
Fast and furious with 40 aero-tow launches and some 13 hours flying time made for a great day but we are still wondering how we got a parking ticket on the airfield?
