Given the forecast earlier in the week we had several members planning a cross country trip but it was not to be.  So it was a pity that the weather was poor; 10/10ths cover, a cloud base that rarely lifted above 2,000 and intermittent light rain for the whole day rather put a dampener on flying.  In addition a brisk wind and some low level turbulence made conditions somewhat sporty at times.

Whist the core membership, our young trainees, are still away on duties, nevertheless we had enough grunt on the airfield to bring out most of the fleet and also to push aircraft back to the launch point for those who landed short!

However, and after all Alan’s sterling work to make them possible, parallel landings on the grass are having a positive impact on the launch rate…..

…..with the ability to stack the launch point on Shawbury’s long r’way 18.

So although conditions were no good for soaring, nevertheless it was a great opportunity for our pilots in training and those at an early solo stage to take advantage of a wealth of instructional talent on the airfield.  Andy, Harry, Toby, Jack, Richard and Sophie were able to take to get in a number of trips during the day and it’s great to see them all making progress.

Finally, Norman brought his Mum along to undertake a quality check on the club simulator – installed by Norman earlier in the year.  Many thanks Judith and good to see it’s working as per the spec, and indeed you did rather better than Norman could do! 😊
