Flying Report Sun 24 Sep 23

We turned up full of optimism that the forecast was correct, rain passing through followed by sunny periods and the establishment of Wave over Shawbury later in the day.  Sadly, the forecast we had all looked at turned out to be the wrong one and high winds eventually stopped play.

Before the rain made an appearance we managed to get 3 trips on for Ben, our latest MEF scholarship student, with instructor Nick Lewinton. Whilst a cadet Ben had gone solo so we hope to get him back to solo standard without much delay.

With a two hour break for rain, it was back to Hangar 4 for some essential admin.  While some chilled, others rigged EEO, a task best avoided if poss🤣 and the final stages of KE’s annual saw the team fit the new trim cable.  Following an extensive clean and polish, KE should be back on line next week.

The rain ceased and ops recommenced.  We are always delighted when service personnel and their family turn up to fly and this week we welcomed Rachel , partner of Shawbury based Shaun.  Rachel flew with Colin but the second flight just didn’t happen as the wind increased in strength.  Perhaps we will see you on another day Rachel for another flight?

With the wind now out of limits for the tug we called is a day but with a 25kt tailwind it was safety first as we provided ballast to keep the tug stable and prevent prop strike on the long 1.6km trip from the launch point back to H4.  John Luke is duly appointed as the new club ballast!

We never saw the Wave!😒
