Flying Report 26 Jun 21

It was great to welcome new members Dan Blenkinsop and Dan Kent to RSGC today. Both left the club having had a brilliant day, with Dan B having a 1h 12m soaring flight with OiC Alan Swan and Dan K going up for an aerobatic joy ride with Norm Potts.

The day started off with a 1500 ft cloud base, which Matt Forrester used to his advantage to be checked out before going solo in R22. The cloud base stubbornly stayed at around 2000 ft for a long period before raising later in the day, although the lift was strong in the thermals. With total of 17 launches and 8h 50m flying time, our members that weren’t called away early on domestic duties also had a chance to fill their boots.

Our regular readers will be disappointed to learn that no 50km flights were flown this weekend. Again. The best effort made it to 15km into wind from Shawbury, to just north of Telford, before scampering straight home when the thermals “disappeared”. Many of the excuses given also included the term “cloud base”. Maybe next time!
