Flying Report Sat 4 May 24
With the B team enroute back from Sisteron it was left to the A team to manage a very busy day on which a lot was accomplished. The day started cold but with the sun breaking through the cloud cover it was the later flyers that took the honours.
Congratulations to Shawbury based MEF gliding bursary student Kieran on being sent solo today by Will. It was actually a re-solo as Kieran has flown solo with other clubs but this his first with an RAFGSA club. After a couple of check flights and then some practice launch failures……
……Kieran then went off on his own and enjoyed a trip of just over 35mins. Top job Kieran
Kieran is posted in May so we hope he can find a nearby service club to continue his gliding journey.
We welcomed BI visitor Liam along with Dad Phil who works at Cosford. Liam took R46 with Nigel who reported that Liam was a natural pilot so, could we see him again?
MEF gliding bursary students Oliver and Harry also joined us with each making three trips during the day. Both are making great progress and have applied for Go-Solo funding.
The local hares looked on whilst we took a pause in proceedings to enable the committee to deal with a frayed tow rope. In this “no-blame culture” the culprit shall remain deaf!!!
The later flyers took advantage of the improving conditions. And it is congratulations to Laura who not only brought cake (essential for smooth flight ops) but finished the solo hours required to complete the BI training syllabus. So subject to submission of the BGA paperwork and completion of a BI acceptance flight with Ian, the club has a new BI. Well done Laura.
Lastly, it was a delight to welcome Mike Gadd to the launch point, after a break of some years. Launching in R35 with Geoff M, Mike enjoyed a trip of an hour and a half and in the process knocked off a lot of cobwebs.
A great day out and bring on Monday.
