Flying Report 22 Apr 23

A busy day for our youngsters as we fitted in as much flying we could in a protracted period for our MEF and Go-Solo scholarship students.  Exams and royal duties meant that many had to leave early.

Highlight of the day was the completion of the BI syllabus by one of our junior members.  At just 16 years of age, all Amelia had left to complete was her navigation exercise which she did today with Alan in KE.  Live streamed on Instagram, around 250 were watching her launch!

Those with longer memories can’t recall anyone else in the club’s history who completed the BI syllabus at that young age. Many congratulations Amelia and we look forward to you taking up instructional duties next weekend.

However, Amelia was made to wait until the penultimate flight of the day as our priority was to get our young student population flying.  With all 2 seaters and both tugs in use they got plenty of flying and it is amazing to see how far they progress in a relatively short period.  We can see a couple of solos not long in the offing.  Thanks too, to our hard working instructors who all put in a good shift today.

Meanwhile the single seat jockeys were all waiting to for conditions to improve – which they didn’t, despite the forecast.  The weather favoured the early flyers with the late comers left disappointed.  We eventually managed to tempt them into the air and hog of the day went to Colin Haynes, Colin only coming down to take up tug flying duties.

During a compressed day we managed 30 launches and 12 hours of flying time. Well done everyone and thanks for all your hard work.
