Flying Report Sat 26 Apr 23

Rain and showers, winds that were, at times, out of limits, a change of runways as the wind changed and helo movements all conspired to challenge us.  It was therefore, a shortened days that saw only 15 launches and just under 5 hours of flying time.

Following a ground briefing Kyle took four trips with instructor Nick Lewinton to make excellent progress with his training and we can see another solo pilot in the near future.  Well done Kyle.

The second K21 we had earmarked for John Pickard.  John started off his BI training today with, and some might say a quite nerve racking experience, Alan in the front seat of R35.

By now the winds were picking up and the sky darkening.  The Vicar had just strapped himself into the K18 and Geoff M in 243 when the first of the showers, showers which had been circling around us, fell with some volume……

…..forcing all to take shelter.

Noun

Bustitution (countable and uncountable, plural bustitutions)

  1. (sometimes derogatory) The (temporary or permanent) substitution by a bus service of another form of transport during an interuption to service.

Following a pause and change of runway flying resumed, only pausing for the launch and recovery of one of the Shawbury flock.

Every launch seemed to find a shower…..

…and finding lift in this kaleidoscope of a sky was proving difficult  Some found a single strong climb that swept them rapidly downwind towards Shrewsbury.

Getting forward to find another was challenging.  Whichever way you turned, there was another shower not far away.

It fell to Mike O to make the best of the conditions, eventually getting to cloudbase.

A day to both test but also frustrate all and see you on Bank Holiday Monday.
