Flying Report Sun 16 Jan 22

Here he is with his new boy’s toy.

Just got to learn how to land it, he said, upon which the Committee, who had eagerly awaited Alan’s return, unanimously agreed that his first landing in his new toy was on a par with England’s batting on the last day of the last Test match in Australia!

A very busy day with four new folk joining us and a number of pilots either at an early solo stage or in training, all of whom needed to get in some flying.  And given the overall numbers we are very near to the point where we can see that we may need another 2-seat aircraft at some stage in the future.

The weather lived up to the cross section, cold, a brief glimpse of the sun and then an increase in wind strength and change in wind direction as the cold front passed through.  Cloud base barely rose above 2,000 feet, viz was not great; it was cold as we ventured out on to the airfield.

It was a delight to welcome Archie, Emily and Keira from Cosford who joined us for their first gliding experience.  The aim was to give them two trips each as a taster and they could then judge whether they wanted to fly with us on a more permanent basis.  Shame about the weather but glad that you all enjoyed yourselves.

It was also a warm welcome to Kyle Edwards from Shawbury.  With a lot of previous flying experience it was no surprise that after a number of trips with CFI Ian Gallacher, Kyle quickly went solo.  Well done and many congratulations Kyle. And we hope to see you again soon developing your skills as a proper pilot - no power and no pressure then!

Next, it was the turn of Andy Hagan to get in some more solo time in the K13.  Andy needs just another seven K13 launches before we look to convert him to the K13.  Finally Liam, together with Marco and Harry who are two of our “Go Solo” students from Cosford, got in some valuable training time and it’s great to see their progress. It will not be long before we produce another batch of solo pilots.

Finally, we have to mention the new club hats that have just arrived.  There are two ways of wearing them, a tale of two hats as it were.  The first is as worn by Keira with complete aplomb, and the second way is err………………….
