Flying Report Sun 14 Jan 24

It was Baltic - cold, wet, a changeable wind forcing a runway change and a low cloud-base were all challenges that were faced during the day.  Six launches completed, and then a 90 minute break for rain.

Taking note of the incoming weather The Vicar and Jack pulled a fast one and legged it in KE down to Welshpool for a hearty breakfast.  They stayed there for a couple of hours whilst the rest of us slaved away in the icy conditions at Shawbury.

To challenge us further, and to keep us amused during the break, Nick managed to lock the keys inside the Jeep, and that despite a warning beside the ignition to “LEAVE KEY IN NOTE”.  By sheer luck Ex-Inspector (Knacker of the Yard) John Luke had certain equipment that gets into a locked jeep and said that he’d have it open in a jemmy(jiffy?)!

At 13:30 flying resumed and welcome to new MEF scholarship student Adam.  Flying with Nick in R35, Adam managed four trips during the day and is making good progress.  Glad you enjoyed your day Adam and see you next time.

There was a hint of low level wave around but those who got on to the front edge found it was very weak indeed and failed to deliver on its promise..

It was a delight to welcome our first visitors of 2024 and it was Shawbury based Dad Ian and son Logan who each enjoyed a trip, albeit short, around the local area.  Thanks to both for your help during the day and we hope that we might see Logan again.

Finally, a big well done to Ameila who, flying with Ian, converted to KE, a variable pitch prop version of the Falke.

PS.  It has been noted that without the Ex-Dear Leader’s influence standards are slipping – a tow rope in this absolutely and simply unforgivable, appalling condition would not have been seen in the old days!  We have sent a request to Alan to join us for a day in order to improve standards.
