Flying Report Sat 24 Jul 21

With many taking advantage of the first post-Covid weekend with no restrictions and others away on ISRGC duties, it was left to just a handful of members to make the most of the conditions to enjoy some good local soaring.

A dull start allowed time for a lesson in how to rig the K13 and in the image below Colin Haynes, in the cockpit, has just got to that point where he needs to call a friend!

It was quite obvious that as the morning went on it was turning thermic and so we set up on the short r’way 05 for an 11:30 first launch with Max Thompson first away in R22.

Bizarrely attired naval aviator James Pottage continued with a solo launch in R22 and was soon followed by EO, the two sharing a thermal on the airfield boundary with climbs to 2,500ft.

We were then delighted to see Rhydian Smith from Cosford return to the airfield after his Covid isolation period and catch up with his flying.

As the afternoon developed Wave set up over the airfield, the only regret being that we simply did not have the resources to take advantage of the conditions - the next time!

With everyone getting in two launches, the final flight went to our hog-of-the-day Will Robinson who enjoyed a soaring flight of 45 mins.  Thanks for everyone for your perseverance and hard work on a thoroughly enjoyable day.
