Wednesday’s forecast looked better but the wind direction and strength neither favoured the ridge nor Wave, and with no cloud to mark the thermals the blue sky conditions proved challenging.  The sacrificial lamb was launched at around 12:00 and immediately got into a good climb overhead the airfield.  With that the 14 other aircraft waiting on the grid followed.  With climbs to 4,000ft+ everyone got away for a good trip with the exception of Ian G, it was just not his day.

Thursday’s forecast looked more promising although winds were too light either for Wave or to get the ridge working but there was some booming thermal activity.  While Geoff C launched early and was back in 32 minutes, Ian G in FCV, Alan and John Luke in R22, and Mike O in his Ventus all made the most of the conditions a little later on and enjoyed a good trip.

The windfarm at LLyn Brenig seemed to be a favourite drop off point for a number of aircraft before setting off on task.

Meanwhile FCV and R22 had set off down the valley and subsequently shared a thermal between Corwen and Llangollen and at one stage Ian G was within a single glide of Shawbury!

Other than last Saturday, this has been the most enjoyable day thus far. Conditions look similar tomorrow.
