An early morning deluge took the urgency out of getting setup up on the airfield (that and the fact that the bus wasn’t charged!)

So after a thorough briefing, Colin decided to lead the male members of the club in a little light weight training using the clubs new K13, R46, as an aid.

It is currently under going it’s annual and replaces R38 which has gone to pasture new.

The K18 has also had it’s annual and that was finally completed today, with a new S80, re-wiring of the instrument panel, working radio and everything.

Once out on the airfield the heavens showered us with precipitation, but only once.

Then the flying commenced. We have several students with MEF and Go Solo bursaries, with a long waiting list from the surrounding RAF stations, these young men and women are keen and enthusiastic and as well as flying hard, they help to run the airfield in a wonderfully effective way.

Once their bursaries are used up, they have the opportunity to continue flying with RAF Shawbury Gliding Club as full members. If they are posted away, they can take their skills to other gliding clubs, also supported by the RAF, at other stations.

It was a busy day with many students and two BI flights. Amelia, who has been a Basic Instructor since the spring, took on the responsibility of flying our visitors today.

The age of her first passenger plus hers was combined to 29 yrs, probably the youngest ever crew the club has seen.

Jack and John enjoyed R66

Whilst Jack was committing aviation in R66, Colin was employed in tugging training flights, but they got together at the end of the day for some trainspotting in KE.

Training continued until late into the afternoon, until everyone had their fill.

Our CFI was renewing his display licence, with the legendary Brendan O’Brian, in Bognor Regis ………….

And our Vicar Toby, was spreading the reciprocal word, after fulfilling duties in a cathedral near NWGC………

…… both renewed their winch launching capabilities.
