A BOSTIN’ DAY OUT. Flying Report Sat 20 Apr 24

We 'ad a bostin time today with booming thermals from first to last launch.  With some members away on the RAFGSA exped to Sisteron in the French Alps, it was left to the rest of us to enjoy a busy and most enjoyable day:

  • 24 launches,

  • 12 hours of flying time and

  • Plenty of cake.

Please watch this space for details of how to enter the Launch Point Bake Off later in the year.

Light northerly winds and minimum cloud cover were the perfect conditions for our students and visitors. The sun soon heated up the ground and thermals were popping from the first launch.  Our trio of MEF gliding scholarship students, Molly, Stevie and Tom all got in a number of trips each with Molly making the best of the conditions for a flight of over an hour with Geoff M in the back seat.   At one point they were joined by a nosey Buzzard!

Looking very smart in their cadet uniforms, Santana and Phearan, two excited visitors joined us for the morning.  First, they had a good look around a glider and a motor glider…..

…..before taking a flight in R46 with Sophie and Geoff.

To add to the excitement, both then took trips in KE with Colin

Thanks guys, super visitors and hope you got the gliding “bug”!

Meanwhile, with the Tin Shed undergoing maintenance Chris (R46) and partner Laura (R66) took late afternoon launches in conditions that were still booming, with Laura naturally taking the honours with a trip of 1hr 10mins.

The radio waves were busy with a lot or traffic flying in and out of Sleap and the only surprise was that Helimed was not called to attend a very busy local Hawkstone Park Mx Track event!

A busy day and thanks to everyone for getting stuck in and making it most enjoyable😍
