Storm Ashley, Sun 20 Oct 24

At the moment we don’t have an option to change flying days at short notice – sadly, Saturday was brilliant!  So it was that Storm Ashley barrelled though today and put paid to any thought of getting on to the airfield.   Low cloud, high wind and rain all contrived to defeat us, rain outside and water inside Hangar 4.

Just a few hardy stalwarts gathered to undertake some essential admin in H4 where all power was off for essential maint but no one told us🤣.  Amongst the maint tasks, a couple of the old lads decided to inflate the K18 mainwheel.  Two flat batteries and some belated instruction saw normal pressure resumed!

Out on the airfield the signs of the refurb of the operating surfaces continues to gather pace with heavy plant everywhere although there was no sign of the contractors.

Howevs, there’s 2,000ft of 18/36 that won’t be on the refurb plan for some while and there are also acres of grass.

A run of bad weather in September has had a huge impact on getting our MEF gliding scholarship students into the air. Let’s keep fingers crossed for next weekend.
