For those who looked at the forecast for Saturday….

……there was a sudden urgency to the departure from Hangar 4 in a bid to make the most of the Wave conditions at Llewenni Parc, the destination for this year’s Spring Exped.

Those who did make the journey on Saturday were well rewarded.  Geoff M in 243 saw 11,000 feet whilst Alan achieved over 9,000 feet in the DG Lawnmower.  Will and Mike O enjoyed a trip to 8,500ft in the K21.  It was a most rewarding day, though exhausting with the need to rig the fleet and then get airborne. 

Sunday was very busy at Llewenni Parc with visiting groups from Long Mynd and Lasham and, at times, there was a long queue to get on the launch point.  First away for RCGS was Darcey in the Llewenni Parc Arcus M.  Dad, Ian had forked out £250 for Darcey to take a flight into Snowdonia in the capable hands of Llewenni Parc CFI Chris Gill.  Alan followed on in the DG Lawnmower and enjoyed a 4hr 30min trip in Snowdonia making the most of thermic and ridge lift.

Those without an iron thermal behind the cockpit had to wait until the ground heated up and then enjoyed some great blue sky thermal soaring along the Clwydian Ridge a constant backdrop when flying off r’way 09.  Thermals to 3,500ft and stunning views over the Irish Sea and the Wirral were rewarding.  Hog of the day went to Will Dean in R66 with a flight of 2h 30min.

For those who haven’t flown at Llewenni Parc the “runway” is, not least, “interesting”.

“Land Long” is the cry and don’t go on the grass.  For some it is an interesting challenge and there is an air of expectation watching every take-off and landing.

The forecast for the rest of the week looks good so we are all looking forward to enjoying some more great flying at Llewenni Parc.
